House Centipedes

July 5, 2008 | By Heidi | Filed Under: home | Leave a Comment

Yeah…I’m not going to post a picture because they creep the hell out of me. They are the scariest looking creepiest bugs I’ve ever seen LIVE…

YUCK!

I saw one of these bad boys in the tub the other night when I was up going potty in the middle of the night. Needless to say, I washed that sucker down the drain. It still gives me the heebie jeebies. *shudder*

We used to have them at our other house, mostly in the laundry room but I think I saw one in another part of the house there as well. But omg, the first time I saw one, it just freaked me right out! I didn’t have a CLUE what that monstrosity was, not that knowing makes it much better, but at least now I know what they’re called. I’d see them every now and then and never as close and personal as the one in the tub!!

Google house centipede. Go ahead click it. You know you want to. Look at how hideous they are. Share in my horror.

The bug guide online says this about them:

Consider these beneficial in your home, since they rid you of other pests.

You’d be lucky to get a good look at one of these since they run away very quickly when approached.

House centipedes are aggressive predators to things their own size but are not considered dangerous to humans. Their small jaws (actually modified front legs) cannot easily pierce human skin. In the rare event you were bitten, pain and swelling may result, but it would probably be no worse than a bee sting.

If you’re plagued by these, you should endeavor to rid yourself of their prey and attempt to close up as many entry points into your house as possible.

Well I don’t consider myself “lucky” to have gotten a good look at this hideous beast, beneficial to my home or not. I’ll live with the few spiders we have, thank you very much.

Hopefully I won’t have to see another of these anytime soon. But if you hear a faint, blood curdling scream somewhere in the distance, that’s just me coming face to face with another lovely house centipede.

I've been Tagged!!

June 30, 2008 | By Heidi | Filed Under: life | Leave a Comment

Well, not really…but I saw this on another blog and wanted to do it…so here it is!

1. I’m totally utterly crazy in love with McDonald’s Sweet Tea!! I would drink it everyday if I could. I get it as often as I can…and for 1.00, you JUST cannot go wrong! YUM!

2. Besides babysitting, I’ve only had two jobs in my life. I worked at a local grocery store for 5 years and I’ve had my current job for 11 year. I’ve worked in other sections in my current job, but I’ve been with the company for 12 years.

3. I listen to all kinds of music. My iPod has a little bit of something from almost every genre on it. My favorites are: Violent Femmes, Pink, Alanis Morisette, Dixie Chicks, Kelly Clarkson. My husband and I “fight” over music because he thinks I should broaden my listening horizon. I just like what I like and in most cases it’s a song here or there and not so much a specific group, singer or band…other than the ones listed above.

4. I think birds are creepy. Some are gorgeous, all are creepy. “shudder” Owls too. Anything with feathers really. creeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy!

5. I am afraid of moths. Especially really big ones.

6. The first time I had been to the Emergency room was a few years ago when my cat bit me. That was also the first time I had stayed in the hospital overnight. I’ve been to the ER a few times since, but still have yet to have an inpatient admission to the hospital. I think maybe my husband has used up all my hospital and ER time. LOL

7. I LOVE taking pictures and am in awe of people who take fabulous photos. I so want to be like them when I grow up.

I won’t “tag” anyone…but if someone else wants to do this, have at it!

My Sister's Getting Married!!

June 22, 2008 | By Heidi | Filed Under: family | Leave a Comment

Today I spent most of the day with my mom and sister while she did her registry at Target and Bed, Bath and Beyond. I never knew how long such a thing would take, but I guess if you need to go and pick out all these items and scan them and really think about what you want and need…it would take a while. She registered for some really nice things. I hope she gets a lot of what she’s asking for.

Her wedding is going to be in October and her shower is in September. My mom, sister and I are throwing her shower. The theme will be cute and I’m sure she will like it and be surprised!

She met her fiance in December I think and they were engaged in March I think she said. It’s a bit fast for my tastes, but I’ve always heard that when you know, you know. And my best friend did the same thing…in fact, when she told me she was engaged I had to ask “to who” because I thought she was dating a totally different person at the time! haha My friend, not my sister. LOL

The guy she’s marrying is a great guy and I’m very happy for the both of them. He really seems to love her and she’s SO different now. In a good way though. It’s totally like night and day. Amazing what finding love will do to a person.

Her wedding dress is going to be a Renaissance style dress and her fiance is Scottish so he will be wearing a kilt. My nephew will be the ring bearer. Her girls will also have the same style dresses as she will I think. Not sure about his guys…will they wear kilts or not. hmm lol Her ring is a claddagh with a sapphire in it. I’m sure it’s pretty. They are having a sort of celtic theme too.

The wedding is gonna be up north on his parents’ property. I guess it’s on a river or canal or something. It should be very pretty with the fall colors and everything. It’s going to be casual and I will be taking hundreds of photos! We’re going to be bringing the dogs with us to stay in the hotel. I don’t trust anyone to give Topaz his meds and I really don’t have anyone to watch them while we’re gone. So we will be making a weekend out of it. It should be nice.

Anyway…I just wanted to write a bit about my sister’s wedding!
