Mother’s Day 2015

May 9, 2015 | By Heidi | Filed Under: family, holidays | Leave a Comment

mothersday2015

Tomorrow is Mother’s Day here in the United States! It’s a day set aside on the second Sunday of May when we honor our mothers.

Shouldn’t we honor our mothers every day though?

Tomorrow I am celebrating Mother’s Day with my own mother and my mother in law and my in laws at a special Mother’s day brunch. Both of my sisters live out of town and my in laws invited my mom to join us for the meal and celebration. It should be a good time. 🙂

After the brunch we are going to my In Law’s house for drinks and when we get home from those festivities my mom and I are going to watch 50 Shades of Grey. That’s my Mother’s Day gift to her. 😉

I found some quotes that I really thought summed up how I feel about my own mother and motherhood in general.

Hope you have a fabulous, wonderful Mother’s Day filled with happiness, hugs, and lots of love!

If your mother has passed or if you are mourning the loss of your child(ren), I wish you/hope you find peace this Mother’s day.

Life Is a Gift

March 7, 2015 | By Heidi | Filed Under: family | Leave a Comment

Wow, could it possibly have been 3 months ago that I last blogged?

So much has happened.

My father was in the hospital over Christmas. Then he was moved to a Skilled Nursing Facility for rehab. He spent a month there and came home at the end of January.

My mother, youngest sister, and I went to Disney world the first week of February. We were there for 8 days. I have loads of photos to share.

My dad fell on the 20th of February and was taken to the ER by ambulance.

He spent a couple days in ICU and 12 hours in Hospice.

And then he was gone.

On February 24, 2015 at 2:12 am, my father died.

We are 3 months into 2015 and the whole experience is surreal, yet, I know it happened.

I was holding his hand (along with my mother) as he took his last breath.

Life is a gift and it’s precious and fragile.

More…happier… topics coming soon.

Happy Easter!!

April 20, 2014 | By Heidi | Filed Under: family, holidays | 1 Comment

I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter!!

The husband and I are heading to my parents house for Easter dinner. We’re going outside the ‘traditional’ Easter meal of ham and all the sides and we were actually going to go out somewhere or order in.

My dad has some health issues and needs a walker to get around and most likely won’t go out so I was pushing for either eating at my parents house or ordering something in.

We settled on having burgers and veggies – salad, fresh green beans, and cauliflower I think. The guys will have some apple strudel things.

Should be a nice day and with me helping to plan the meal, it will be easy for me to stay on program.

I didn’t have a great day yesterday…well, I take that back…I went out to eat and don’t really know how to count what I ate. I will write it down, of course, but not sure how to count it. Today is a new day though.

I will leave you with a photo of an Easter tree at my parents’ house. My mother usually decorates this tree for all holidays, but she didn’t decorate it for Easter this year. So this is an older photos, but represents the tree well.

How will you be celebrating Easter this year?

The ‘Happy Easter’ graphic was made using elements and papers from the digital scrapbooking kit, Hippity Hoppity, by Kristin Aagard Designs. It’s available at Scrap Orchard. – No commission on this for me, just giving credit where its due.

Till next time….
