Update!!

September 29, 2011 | By Heidi | Filed Under: sugarbetes, Weighing In | Leave a Comment

Update time!! I wanted to write this earlier, but I haven’t had time. I started a new class…FLASH…and I am really trying to try and do my best in it! So far, so good!

Anyway, I had a doctor’s appointment this past week. The verdict was GREAT!

1. I’ve lost 33 lbs since my first appointment in August. 33!! Can you believe it?? I am thrilled!!! My clothes are starting to feel big and although not many people have noticed yet, they will! Fresh Fruit Bowl @ Meadowood Napa Valley

2. The doctor who I saw (she’s actually a PA) said my sugars are GREAT! She said they’re non-diabetic good!! YAY! Definitely down from 500! omg. I am SOO lucky that I went in and they caught that!

3. My blood work all came back good the last time I went in. Even my thyroid, which was crazy, was good.

4. I have felt GREAT! Definitely a HUGE improvement and I didn’t even know I wasn’t feeling well!

5. I am totally off the caffeine…I know, right? I still have a diet pop every couple days at work, but they are not caffeinated and when I do drink something other than water I generally don’t finish it. Bizzare!

6. The jeans that I will be wearing tomorrow are 2 sizes smaller than the ones I was wearing (and were too tight even!) are. 2 sizes. wow. And, I will totally be rocking them!

7. The only not so great thing is that my left outer thigh has been bothering me…numb, tingly, pins, really sharp pains. It’s been waking me up at night even so I told the doctor and she put me on neurontin. I’ve been sleeping better but it kind of makes me feel wonky before I go to bed. We’ll see. She said it may be my back…which was bothering me a little bit today.

8. Let’s end on a happy note…33 pounds!!! Hot DAM!

Photos from the Diabetes Walk

September 18, 2011 | By Heidi | Filed Under: sugarbetes | Leave a Comment

The walk was a lot of fun! I’m so glad that we participated. The Sugarbetes raised almost $300.00 for Diabetes, we got to see the animals at the zoo and we got our walk on!!

I am a little broken today…feet & legs hurt. But it was a good time.

I, of course, took a TON of photos. Here are a few:

Opening Ceremony

SOopening

The walk begins! There were LOTS of people there. All of the red caps are ‘Red Striders’ or people who have diabetes themselves. I wore a red shirt and wore my hat on my purse.

SOcrowd

Another photo of the crowd. There were these kids and young men dressed in old time American costumes and playing drums, it was pretty cool!

SOwalk

The fountain!

SOfountain

This tiger came to the edge and was just sitting there staring at us. I REALLY wish I would have thought to bring my other lens for my camera. Next time, deifnitely!

SOtiger

Why did the peacock cross the road? lol Peacocks and peahens run freely in the zoo. I guess they lost their pretty feathers last week, which is too bad. They were all kind of sad looking…beautiful still though.

SOpeacock

The Zebras were too far away! 🙁 One would get on his hind legs to get leaves in the trees.

SOzebra

This is a grizzly bear, I believe. They had 4 different kinds of bears there. This bear was funny, he got in the water and then just sat there like this. I need to re-edit this photo and bring the purple in the lavender out better. The zoo is full of gardens and is probably really pretty in the spring/early summer. The gardens were kind of sad looking.

SObear

Giraffes are awesome. The end.

SOgiraffe

The Detroit Zoo has this really cool "Artic Circle of Life" exhibit. You can sit in a glass tunnel and the seals and polar bears swim all around you. Unfortunately, the bears weren’t swimming, but the seals were!

SOseal

My husband being silly with the polar bear mask in the gift shop!

SOpolarhubs

We FINALLY made it to the finish line! LOL

SOfinish

Cool shirt in the gift shop!! lol

SOdung

The water tower!

SOtower

The end.

Losing It… New Section of My Blog

September 17, 2011 | By Heidi | Filed Under: sugarbetes, Weighing In | Leave a Comment

losingit

Instead of keeping track of a new blog, I’m just going to post my weight/health issues under the tag of “Losing It” and then have a link that points to all of them. This way I can keep things in one place.

With my recent diagnosis, I need to change my lifestyle and focus more on my health. I need to lose weight for sure (hence the “losing it” title). I just need to become more healthy in general.

Besides that our health insurance choices are changing and they are offering a “Healthy” version of an HMO which requires members to join programs to lose weight and follow doctor’s orders to lessen the out-of-pocket cost of the healthcare. I am really leaning towards going this route because I think if I do, it will help hold me accountable.

I have no guilt – which is not a good thing – so when it comes to “messing up my diet” I don’t even feel remotely bad or have any remorse. To me, I’d rather just not cheat at all not because I’ll feel bad, but because when I do cheat it leads to other unhealthy choices and now I really can’t afford to do that.

I joined Weight Watchers a while back with the full intention of working through the program online. I bought materials, got the apps for my phone, set up the blog to record my progress and then never even did the program. Not good.

Problem is, I did the Weight Watchers program in the past and my mind kind of automatically thinks that way when thinking about diets and healthy foods to eat.

This is a good thing, but with the Diabetes, I am totally confused about carbs and whatnot. I got some information recently to go over and have been reading things online but I am just still really confused and my sugar has been a bit higher and I am not sure what I am doing wrong. I probably need to see a dietician, but I am really going to try to do it on my own for a little bit.

I’ve lost 14 lbs since by diagnosis, so I am heading in the right direction.

46078_464809911339_328367361339_6481917_2330644_nA while back when I was listening to weight loss podcasts (and following WW correctly!) I came across a podcast called “The Reasonable Diet.” I had joined their newsletter list and an email came to me this week about joining a program for $2.00 for a month. 2 bucks? How could I pass that up?

So, I joined this “Lose 20 lbs in 12 weeks” Self Paced program. I like The Reasonable Diet’s philosophy. I need to make changes in my entire life, not just in the foods I am eating right now. This has to be long term. This has to be a lifetime change.

The Reasonable Diet page is http://www.reasonablediet.com

I’m going to give it a go.

I am going to try.

While I was going over the materials for this program, there was a quote that I like and I think is fitting.

“Do not wait; the time will never be ‘just right.’ Start where you stand and work with whatever tools you may have at your command, and better tools will be found as you go along.” – Napoleon Hill
