I’m a sucker for infomercials. Everything always seems lovely when they showcase it in an hour segment. The products do wonders, they amaze, they will change your life!
In reality – they are generally mediocre at best.
That brings me to Wen. I first saw Wen on an infomercial with Alyssa Milano and Chaz Dean. I was intrigued, I’ll admit it. The infomercial sucked me in. I wanted to buy it right then but was hesitant because of the cost. So I asked Santa.
And Santa delivered!
For Christmas I got three 6 oz bottles of Wen in 3 flavors – Sweet Almond, Lavender and Fig. I believe my mom, er Santa got these here.
First reaction was that the bottles were tiny! And then I read the instruction booklet – yes I said booklet!
Rinse, separate hair into 4 parts, use 10-12 pumps on each area, massage starting at the roots, comb through with a wide toothed comb, clip up and finish shower, massage again and rinse with cool water. Add in 2-3 pumps as a leave in to soaking wet hair. Do not towel dry. Only use a blow dryer with an attachment…
Really? All these specific instructions for a hair product. I was in over my head. My hair was past my shoulders and is curly and color treated. It’s thick and I don’t have a clip to clip it up in the shower and have limited time in the morning and who the heck wants to shock their system with a cool rinse first thing in the AM?
But I tried it anyway. And wow. The results were lovely! My hair was soft and shiny!!
I wasn’t sure what styling products to use so I didn’t use any. And at first I was blowing my hair partially dry with cool air, which was just making it look frizzy, in my opinion anyway so eventually I stopped that and just let it air dry. This seemed to work better.
I worked my way through all of the flavors with Sweet Almond Mint being my favorite, Lavender next and Fig made my eyes water and my hair smell funny. All of them make my scalp tingle and all of them make my hair soft, smooth and shiny.
I was still having an issue with the lack of styling product so I looked into buying one of the Wen products. I was also running out of the cleansing conditioner. I found this deal for a little over $35 delivered I got a a larger bottle of the cleansing conditioner, a styling crème, a comb, texture balm and the hair repair mask!
And here it is!
Ok, so I love the styling crème and I liked the balm when I used it once, I will use it again I’m sure, but the styling crème is great!
What I love about Wen is that it makes my hair feel clean, yet soft and shiny. It really did wonders for my curly hair when it was long and I’m working through the differences now that it’s shorter again.
What I don’t love about Wen is the cost…although, I do use less product and have been washing my hair every other day rather than every day. I also have found that it leaves my hair flaky. Not like itchy scalp like dandruff, but flaky like the product is flaking off flaky. I have read online that other people have had this problem as well. I am wondering if I am using too much product or something. Not sure, it’s still a work in progress.
I want to try the Tea Tree Oil flavor as well as the Cucumber Aloe flavor. And I guess there is a Pomegranate flavor as well!
