Seizure Kitty!

June 30, 2009 | By Heidi | Filed Under: zoo | Leave a Comment

What could a title like that mean? Yeah, one of the cats had a seizure this morning!! Our little princess Beans!!!!!

I wasn’t home, so the hubbs had to take care of it…and he did a wonderful job! Funny how in a pinch, he can deal, but in general…no.

I got a call around 9:45 or so…and he tells me that Beans just had a seizure. My heart dropped. O.M.G!!! Not another one! We already have an epileptic dog…I cannot handle another epileptic animal! So thinking…”ok I will need to blog about this later” I asked for the details. Here’s what he told me.

  • seizure was around 10 seconds total and happened at around 9:30am
  • started with her screaming crying
  • she was under the bed and she peed herself
  • she was frothing at the mouth
  • pupils were dilated/eyes huge
  • paddling and twitching
  • he picked her up and washed her off and she seemed ok
  • little to no post ictal period

I had him call the vet and ask what to do. They said keep an eye on her and if she has another to call again and bring her in.

I was thinking in between calls and looking some things up online. I guess feline seizures aren’t as common as canine. I was thinking about environmental issues…any changes…could she have gotten into anything. No, things are the same as usual…food is the same…Topaz got into the trash over the weekend so she could have gotten into that, but being that she’s a tiny thing it probably wouldn’t be effecting her a few days later. I asked my husband to look around for anything that she could have gotten into.

While debating on whether to take her in just for some general blood tests (she was kind of sneezing this past week and has had diarrhea for the longest – and yeah, we’ve done numerous stool samples – no worms or parasites) my husband tells me that he found “two bright orange pills under the bed that were chewed on”. The only orange pills we every have had in the house are Motrin. Unfortunately, he flushed them….Arg! Men! So I don’t know for SURE what they were…but bright orange to me is Motrin.

So I have him call the vet again…they said if she chewed the pills then the seizure could have been from that and to keep an eye on her. And to no drop any more pills! heh…yeah, no problem there!

We’ll be keeping a pretty good eye on her for the next few days and will be praying this is a fluke thing and not a regular thing. I honestly cannot handle more than one epileptic animal!

And funny thing is, she seems more lovey now…don’t know if I am just noticing it, but she’s been coming to us…usually she’s one to hide.

New Blog Look (again!), MJ Tribute @ NKOTB Concert @ DTE & Dog Baths!

June 26, 2009 | By Heidi | Filed Under: twilight, zoo | Leave a Comment

First let me talk about the new blog look. How sweet is it? I LOVE it. My favoritest scrappy artist made it and it’s for sale in her store!! She has another one too, that’s super cute, but of course the Twilighty one was for me! I am still tweaking it a bit, so there may be a few changes but I think I will stick with this for a while. I miss my pear with the princess cap, so I may bring it back and put it on the side. When she tweeted about this earlier in the week, I knew I HAD to go and snatch it up! I love her blog style and well…it’s Twilight! So, thanks to Miss Flergs for deciding to sell WordPress themes!

Moving right along…now I should probably put some explanation about how yeah, yeah, I still like the New Kids…whatever. I still like the freaking New Kids! I follow them all on Twitter, I listen to their new album in my car constantly, and had I been able to, I would have gone to their concert last night at DTE!!! What of it?? lol AND, I would have been dancing, screaming, squealing and crying like a little girl!! So what? So I like the New Kids…so, I also like P!nk, and Eminem, and Paramore…I’ve written before that my music taste is all over the place. I like what I like…what can I say.

Anyway, here’s a little video of what I and anyone else who wasn’t there…missed. A little tribute to Michael Jackson! I know my sister would have appreciated this with me!

It is SWEET…and it was HOTT here yesterday so those guys had to be DYING! How nice of them to do this tribute…I don’t care what anyone says. I loved MJ back in the day, and yeah he got a little weird and wonky, but he was and always will be “The King of Pop”. RIP Michael.

I was off work today because I didn’t feel well yesterday (and with the swine and Legionnaires’ in my city, one can’t be too cautious!) so I also took today off, since I can’t afford more unpaid time. It was such a nice day…not too hot, but hot enough…out that we decided to give the pups a bath outside! So it wasn’t too long before we had a couple of drowned rats on our hands. LOL

Topaz got a good brushing after the bath and we tried with Onyx, but she’s not as cooperative when it comes to the brush and water! She loves to swim in the lake, but a bath? forget it! She’s out.

True Blood Marathon!

June 20, 2009 | By Heidi | Filed Under: life | Leave a Comment

True-Blood-true-blood-2965909-1024-768

So like I wrote in my last post, my husband and I had never seen True Blood on HBO because we don’t have that channel. I kept hearing how it’s "Twilight for Adults” and how many of the Twilight loving bloggers who I follow are now watching True Blood and are really liking it. Curiosity got the better of me and we ended up buying the first season on DVD.

We started watching it last night and got through the first 3 episodes! I’m already hooked and will be calling our cable company tomorrow to order HBO! My husband is hooked too…which I knew he would be!

We stopped for a break (he had to run and get some hamburger for the dogs’ breakfast) and we’re on Episode 8 I believe. There are 12 in the first season…I figure we’ll make it through another 2 tonight. Part of me wants to just stay up until we’re finished with Season 1, but the rational part of me knows that staying up all night is no good and will talk myself out of pulling an all-nighter to finish it.

The only thing about the show that I don’t like is that it always seems to end with something huge happening. I can totally see myself being mad every.week about this! I get mad when shows leave you hanging when they end! Although, it keeps you watching because you NEED to see what happens next! NCIS ended their season with some huge cliffhanger ending…oooh I am still mad about that!

So i can add True Blood to my obsessions. lol *sigh* At least I’ll have something to watch during the summer! I didn’t have anything on Sunday nights. (I think that’s the night when it comes on)

I think, also, that I will start listening to the “Sookie Stackhouse” series by Charlaine Harris. I have 3 of the books, #1, #2 and #8 and I actually have an audible credit that I’ve been sitting on. Maybe I’ll wait till after I listen to the first two books to use it to get the third…if I like the first couple. Right now I’m finishing up Eclipse for the 3rd time…squeeeeeeeee…and will go on to Breaking Dawn when I’m done…so it will be a week or so before I would get to it. Hmm…but audible is having a good sale right now…LOL

Ok…lol so I just got the 3rd and 4th book and another one that I had on my wish list. I love Audible!

Anyway, I’m gonna hop on Facebook for a few minutes while waiting for the hubbs to return from Meijer….then it’s back to the vampires!
