GlassLock – New Favorite Lunch Containers

I have tried out a number of different containers for bringing food in for lunch and breakfast at work – Tupperware, Gladware, Ziploc containers, dollar store containers, Rubbermaid… you name it, I’ve tried it.

I don’t like the taste of food that has been reheated in plastic that’s been washed in the dishwasher. To me it always tastes like soap. It may be in my head, but I can always smell dirty dishes and dishwasher soap when reheating them in the microwave.

A little while ago, like a couple years, I got some Pyrex glass containers. I like using these containers and try not to reheat food with the cover on to spare me from the soap smell and taste.

However, the lids leak and if I bring something liquid, like milk for cereal, it leaks all over my lunch bag and makes a mess!

I’ve been looking for new glass containers that don’t leak and have various lunch sizes available.

That brings me to GlassLock.

I read a recent review on a blog and I was intrigued because I was looking for a different glass container that didn’t leak.  So I ordered a set on Amazon.

Let me tell you about these containers; I have some serious love for them.

First, they do not leak. YAY!! Finally! A lunch container that does not leak. They have a rubber ring inside the lid that causes them to be leak proof and air tight. Awesome stuff there. The lids fit really snug too. I like the snap lock feature of them.

Second, they are heavy weight. You’d think that I wouldn’t want to lug in heavy glass containers to work on a daily basis, but I like that they are heavy and glass. Perfect for my issue with dishwasher soap smell and I can remove the lid for reheating. (I don’t think the lid is microwave proof anyway)

And Finally, they are see through (because they’re glass, duh), oven friendly if you like that sort of thing, freezer friendly, and they stack inside each other well for storage.

The set I bought was this one. The containers are a little bigger than I need for lunches, but they are a good size for cooking and leftovers. I will have to find a set that includes some smaller sizes for my lunch and breakfasts.

Have you found lunch bag sized containers that you like more than others? Share them in the comments!

Till next time…

Weekly Weigh In – Week Two

April 25, 2014 | By Heidi | Filed Under: health, Weighing In | Leave a Comment

wwweighin2

Week two…done!

This week I lost again! 2.8 pounds!!

So 11.6 pounds total.

If you know Weight Watchers, this means I got a 10 pound ribbon this week!

This week: I added walking in the parking structure to my daily routine. I started walking in the structure on my lunch or breaks during the week while at work before we went to Disney world in November. I wanted to lose some weight for the trip and get back into the swing of walking. I had a number of shoe issues though, which included giving myself HUGE blisters and buying and returning 2 pairs of shoes. I finally just brought my old pair and killed them. I haven’t worn them since. I loved those shoes too!

Anyway, so I started walking. All this week I walked up the structure from the third floor to the sixth and then took the elevator down to 1 and walked back up to 3. Next week I think I may start at one and then walk up to six and then down to three or down further. I think last year I was up to walking all the way up and down it at least once. People walk inside the building but I get too warm and don’t like people to see me walking. Maybe I need to not care about that. Funny, that’s what bothers me.

I ate ok this week. Saturday I went out with my mom and two of my aunts. Dinner wasn’t the best eating and points wise, but I’m learning. I can see how going out may be a challenge. And Easter was ok too.

Overall the biggest thing I struggle with is still breakfast. I may need to steer away from traditional breakfast foods and go more towards like an egg salad sandwich on a thin sandwich round and a piece of fruit or the sandwich with yogurt and fruit. I did make steel cut oats on Sunday and ate them most of the week and I do really like Oat Bran with fruit. My favorite has been oat bran with cinnamon and canned (in 100% fruit juice) peaches. I think I may have wrote about that last week.

I don’t struggle with eating breakfast, I struggle with just the oatmeal being enough food to keep me until lunch or not feeling hungry again in an hour. So then I add an egg or something with protein and then I feel like it’s too much. I don’t know. Still a work in progress.

This week I will try to just stay focused on program and try new foods and food combos.

Till next time…

Happy Easter!!

April 20, 2014 | By Heidi | Filed Under: family, holidays | 1 Comment

I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter!!

The husband and I are heading to my parents house for Easter dinner. We’re going outside the ‘traditional’ Easter meal of ham and all the sides and we were actually going to go out somewhere or order in.

My dad has some health issues and needs a walker to get around and most likely won’t go out so I was pushing for either eating at my parents house or ordering something in.

We settled on having burgers and veggies – salad, fresh green beans, and cauliflower I think. The guys will have some apple strudel things.

Should be a nice day and with me helping to plan the meal, it will be easy for me to stay on program.

I didn’t have a great day yesterday…well, I take that back…I went out to eat and don’t really know how to count what I ate. I will write it down, of course, but not sure how to count it. Today is a new day though.

I will leave you with a photo of an Easter tree at my parents’ house. My mother usually decorates this tree for all holidays, but she didn’t decorate it for Easter this year. So this is an older photos, but represents the tree well.

How will you be celebrating Easter this year?

The ‘Happy Easter’ graphic was made using elements and papers from the digital scrapbooking kit, Hippity Hoppity, by Kristin Aagard Designs. It’s available at Scrap Orchard. – No commission on this for me, just giving credit where its due.

Till next time….
